ESPYs winner Paige Bueckers calls out media coverage of Black women in a “ Black-led sport”

Her meteoric rise was acknowledged at the 2021 ESPYs, where she claimed the coveted title of the finest collegiate athlete in women’s sports. “As I stand here, a recipient of your collective acknowledgment, I am compelled to implore for change,” she continued. “The narratives woven by sports media, the tales spun by sponsors, hold within them the power to shape perceptions of value. Your acknowledgment today is deeply appreciated, but let us unite this influence to magnify the voices and triumphs of Black women.”
