The Park Fire in Northern California has grown to over 370,000 acres with 12% containment. Favorable weather has helped firefighters make progress, but new challenges include spot fires along Highway 32 with difficult terrain and heavy fuels. Thousands remain evacuated, particularly in Butte County, with ongoing efforts to contain the fire. Some evacuation orders have been downgraded to warnings, but recent spot fires delayed further reductions.
The fire started in Chico’s Bidwell Park and has spread rapidly, fueled by dense vegetation and dry conditions. Officials are concerned about its potential to become one of the largest in California’s history. Evacuation sites and shelters are active, with updates available on Cal Fire’s website. The fire’s rapid growth is attributed to high fuel loads and challenging conditions, although cooler temperatures and lighter winds are aiding containment efforts.
