The Powerball jackpot has reached an estimated $725 million after no winning numbers were drawn on Monday. The winning numbers for Monday night’s drawing were 2, 24, 34, 53, 58, with the Powerball number being 13 and the Power Play multiplier being 2X. No tickets matched all five numbers plus the Powerball. If someone had won on Monday night and chosen the cash option, they would have received over $340 million.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are about 1 in 292.2 million, while the overall odds of winning any prize in the game are approximately 1 in 24.9. To play Powerball, participants need to purchase a ticket for $2 per play and select five numbers from one to 69 for the white balls, as well as one number from one to 26 for the red Powerball. Alternatively, random numbers can be chosen.
Aside from the jackpot, Powerball offers eight additional prize tiers based on the number of matched balls, with non-jackpot prizes ranging from $4 to $1 million. Players can also choose to add the “Powerplay” feature for an extra dollar, which can multiply non-jackpot winnings by 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10 times. However, the 10X Powerplay option is only applicable to jackpots worth $150 million or less.
In some jurisdictions, players can also opt for the “Double Play” add-on feature for an additional chance to match their numbers after each Powerball drawing, costing $1 per play.
The largest lottery prize in US history was a $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won in California on November 7, 2022. Other notable prizes include a $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot won in January 2016 and a $1.537 billion Mega Millions jackpot won in October 2018.
