Persons of interest identified in murder of Detroit synagogue president
The news reports the release of a suspect in the murder case of Detroit synagogue president Samantha Woll. The suspect was apprehended on November 8 in Kalamazoo but has since been released, as confirmed by the suspect’s attorney. Woll, aged 40 and president of Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue, was found stabbed to death outside her home on October 21. The investigation suggests she was stabbed inside her residence and then moved to her yard.
Despite the tragedy, Detroit Police Chief James White stated on October 23 that evidence doesn’t point to antisemitic motives. Woll attended a wedding the night before her death, returning home around 12:30 a.m. with no signs of forced entry. Sam Dubin of the Jewish Community Relations Council expressed mourning for Woll’s loss but emphasized celebrating her life and legacy. Woll had led the synagogue since 2022 and had a previous association with Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin’s team. The suspect’s release raises questions about the ongoing investigation into Woll’s murder.
