Alexander Mountain Fire: How the wildfire compares in size
The Alexander Mountain Fire in northern Colorado rapidly expanded from 950 acres to over 1,800 acres within 24 hours, now almost as large as the Horsetooth Reservoir. The fire, which started before noon on Monday, has caused evacuations east of Estes Park. Residents and their animals are taking refuge in evacuation shelters, with over 100 animals housed at the Ranch Events Center & Complex. Although significant, this wildfire is far smaller than Colorado’s largest, the Cameron Peak fire, which burned over 208,000 acres in 2020.
