World Sleep Day is an annual event, intended to be a celebration of sleep and a call to action on important issues related to sleep, including medicine, education, social aspects, and driving. It is organized by the World Sleep Day Committee of the World Sleep Society and aims to lessen the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and management of sleep disorders. World Sleep Day is held the Friday before Spring Vernal Equinox of each year. Future dates will be Friday, March 18, 2022, and Friday, March 17, 2023.
World Sleep Day History
The main World Sleep Day was respected universally on March 14, 2008, by the World Association of Sleep Medicine, which established the World Sleep Day Committee of the World Sleep Society. It was chosen to be observed consistently on the Friday before the Spring Vernal Equinox.
Who Created World Sleep Day?
A gathering of devoted medical care suppliers and individuals from the medical community who work and study in the field of sleep medication and exploration made the yearly awareness event. The main purpose of World Sleep Day was to unite rest healthcare workers from around the world to discuss and spread sleep information and data. Liborio Parrino, MD, Associate Professor of Neurology at Parma University, Italy, and Antonio Culebras, MD, Professor of Neurology at Upstate Medical University and Consultant, The Sleep Center, Community General Hospital, Syracuse, New York, USA, were the main co-seats of World Sleep Day.
Reason for World Sleep Day
The vision of the day was to make the individuals understand that notwithstanding the issue or medical issue we have today, another large issue is our absence of sleep, which we frequently ignore in our standard plans for getting work done. So on this day, the significant objective was to raise public awareness about the requirement for good sleep, drugs for dozing issues or a sleeping disorder, and exercise so everybody can have a decent night’s sleep consistently and be sound from the inside out.
