Former Steelers LB Clark Haggans

Former Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker, Clark Haggans, passed away at the age of 46, as confirmed by a team spokesperson. The Larimer County coroner’s office in Fort Collins, Colorado, responded to the incident on Monday and conducted an autopsy on Wednesday. The cause and manner of death are still under investigation, and no signs of foul play have been reported.

Haggans, drafted by the Steelers in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL draft from Colorado State, played eight seasons in Pittsburgh. He was part of the team that won Super Bowl XL in 2006, starting alongside his college teammate Joey Porter. Haggans had a standout performance in the game, recording five tackles, a sack on quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, and contributing to nine sacks and four forced fumbles during the season.

Throughout his career with the Steelers, Haggans displayed impressive statistics, including one interception, 12 forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 332 tackles, and 32.5 sacks. Following his time in Pittsburgh, he played four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and retired after a final season with the San Francisco 49ers in 2012. Haggans holds the record for the most career sacks at Colorado State and was honored with induction into the school’s hall of fame in 2015.

The football community mourns the loss of Clark Haggans, recognizing his contributions to the game and his achievements both at the collegiate and professional levels.
