Erica Ash, known for her roles on the Fox sketch comedy show Mad TV, the BET reality spoof Real Husbands of Hollywood, and the Starz comedy-drama Survivor’s Remorse, has passed away at the age of 46. Ash died on Sunday in Los Angeles following a prolonged battle with cancer, her publicist Elizabeth Much informed The Hollywood Reporter.

“Erica was an amazing woman and talented entertainer who touched countless lives with her sharp wit, humor, and genuine zest for life,” her family said in a statement. “Her memory will live eternally in our hearts.”

Ash also starred as the formidable public defender Gwen Sullivan in the 2018 BET drama In Contempt.

She first gained attention starring in the initial two seasons (2006-08) of Logo’s The Big Gay Sketch Show, produced by Rosie O’Donnell. Her film credits include Scary Movie V (2013), Uncle Drew (2018), The Big Bend (2021), and Violet (2021).

Ash portrayed Mary Charles (“M-Chuck”) Calloway, half-sister of Jessie T. Usher’s pro basketball player Cam Calloway, throughout all four seasons (2014-17) of Survivor’s Remorse, produced by LeBron James through his Spring Hill Productions. She made life challenging for her ex-husband Kevin Hart as Bridgette Hart in Real Husbands of Hollywood, which aired for five seasons from 2013 to 2016.

Born Erica Chantal Ash on September 19, 1977, in Florida, she was raised in Atlanta and attended Emory University to study medicine. Taking a break from her studies, she traveled to Japan, where she unexpectedly began a career in entertainment, starting with background singing and modeling. In a 2017 interview with the Los Angeles Times, she recounted how one opportunity led to another, likening her career journey to that of Forrest Gump.

Ash’s Broadway experience includes a 2011 performance in Baby It’s You!, a jukebox musical featuring music from The Shirelles and other Scepter Records acts. Her extensive résumé also includes episodes of Cold Case, Shades of Blue, A Black Lady Sketch Show, and Family Reunion, as well as films like Kristy (2014), Jean of the Joneses (2016), and The Outlaw Johnny Black (2023).
