RHOP’s Wendy and Eddie Osefo Speak Out After Arrest on 16 Fraud Charges: “We’re Home and in Good Spirits”

RHOP’ Stars Dr. Wendy Osefo and Husband Eddie Speak Out After Being Arrested on Fraud Charges

The Real Housewives of Potomac stars Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Eddie Osefo, have broken their silence following their recent arrest on multiple fraud charges.

According to the Westminster Police Department in Maryland, the couple is facing 16 charges, including seven felony counts linked to alleged “false or misleading information fraud” involving over $300.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE on October 10, the couple’s representative said,

“Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are back home safely with their family and in good spirits. They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues.”

The rep added that the couple is “looking forward to their day in court” and asked for privacy as they focus on their family and the upcoming legal process.

What Led to the Charges?

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the couple was arrested on October 9 and released on bond the next day.

Authorities revealed the case stemmed from an April 2024 burglary report, in which the Osefos claimed that over $200,000 worth of jewelry, luxury clothing, and designer items were stolen while they were away on vacation.

However, investigators allegedly discovered inconsistencies. Police found that over $20,000 worth of the reported stolen goods had been returned to the stores where they were purchased. Additionally, detectives reportedly found photos of Wendy wearing some of the same jewelry after the supposed burglary.

Prosecutors also claim the couple filed a $450,000 insurance claim for personal property loss, which later triggered the fraud investigation.

Where Things Stand Now

The couple, both 41, have denied any wrongdoing and intend to clear their names in court.

Wendy, a former Johns Hopkins University professor and political commentator, is known for being the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. in Public Affairs-Community Development from Rutgers University (Camden).

Eddie, a practicing attorney and CEO of the cannabis brand Happy Eddie, has not issued a personal statement yet.

The pair joined The Real Housewives of Potomac in season 5 and were set to appear in Bravo’s upcoming “Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition.” However, Bravo has postponed the premiere from October 14 to October 21, and Wendy’s episode will no longer kick off the season.

The couple celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary in August and share three children — Karter (12), Kruz (10), and Kamrynn (6).

Despite the controversy, Wendy and Eddie say they remain optimistic and appreciative of the public’s support. As the statement concluded:

“They are focused on their family and looking forward to the truth coming to light.”

What’s Next

The case is now moving through Maryland’s judicial system. The Osefos are expected to appear in court later this year to address the charges.

For now, fans can continue watching The Real Housewives of Potomac, airing Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo, while Bravo’s Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition premieres October 21 at 9 p.m. ET.
