Cristiano Ronaldo’s pursuit of a team trophy in the Saudi Pro League has come to an end as Al Nassr failed to secure the title. In their recent match against Ettifaq, Al Nassr could only manage a 1-1 draw, while Al-Ittihad clinched a 3-0 victory over Al Feiha, securing their first league title since 2009. Led by former Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo, Al-Ittihad now sit five points above Al Nassr with just one round of fixtures remaining.
This season has seen Al-Ittihad thwart Ronaldo’s trophy ambitions before. In the semi-finals of the Saudi Super Cup in January, Al Nassr suffered a 3-1 defeat to Al-Ittihad, denying Ronaldo a chance at silverware in just his second match for the club. Additionally, Al Nassr’s hopes of winning the King Cup were shattered in April when they lost 1-0 to Al-Wehda.
Despite a glittering career that has seen Ronaldo win 30 team trophies with prestigious clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid, the 38-year-old Portuguese star has been unable to add to his trophy collection since helping Juventus secure the Coppa Italia in May 2021.
Ronaldo’s individual performances have not gone unnoticed, and he has been a key contributor to Al Nassr’s campaign. His four-goal haul in a 4-0 victory against Al-Wehda in February 2023 demonstrated his impact on the team.
Ultimately, this season will see Ronaldo settling for second place in the Saudi Pro League as Al-Ittihad celebrate their long-awaited triumph.
