Rosh Hashanah 2023: A Sweet New Beginning

Rosh Hashanah 2023 Wishes and Shana Tova Greetings: Happy Jewish New Year!

Rosh Hashanah 2023, the Jewish New Year, commenced at sundown on Friday, with celebrations starting in Northbrook, IL. Rabbi Meir Moscowitz of Lubavitch Chabad demonstrated the shofar, a ram’s horn musical instrument central to the holiday, which coincided with the Jewish Sabbath this year. The shofar symbolizes a call to connect with God and usher in a new year.

This month marks the start of significant Jewish Holy days, with many observing Rosh Hashanah in synagogues and enjoying sweets as a symbol of a sweet year ahead. Congregation members gathered earlier to prepare packages for distribution. Rosh Hashanah is a time for reflection, reconnection with God, and seeking forgiveness for past sins. It signifies the birth of mankind and falls on different dates in September or October based on the Jewish calendar.

Prayer plays a central role in Rosh Hashanah, with a 320-page prayer book used over the two days starting at sundown on Friday night. Candles are lit to symbolize light and peace in the home, reminding individuals of their purpose in relation to their creator.
