Supergirl Star Milly Alcock Opens Up About Her Humble Beginnings as a Dishwasher in Sydney

Milly Alcock Says She Worked as a Dishwasher Before Landing ‘Supergirl’

Before becoming the new Supergirl in the DC Universe, Milly Alcock was living a very simple life in Australia. The 26-year-old actress recently shared how difficult — yet meaningful — her early days were before finding global fame.

In a new interview with Variety, Alcock revealed that at just 18 years old, she was living in the attic of her family home while starring in the Australian TV series Upright. She joked that her life felt like something from a Roald Dahl story because the attic was extremely hot and cramped.

Even after landing acting work, Alcock still had to support herself financially. She worked as a dishwasher at a busy Sydney restaurant and said she did the job “proudly,” even though the kitchen was open and customers could see her working.

Her acting career later took off when she was cast as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s hit fantasy series House of the Dragon. The role made her an international star and opened the door to bigger opportunities in Hollywood.

Now, Alcock is preparing for one of the biggest roles of her career — playing Supergirl in the upcoming DC film Supergirl, which is set to release on June 26. She will also return as Kara Zor-El in Man of Tomorrow, planned for release in 2027.

The actress said she is especially excited for young women to watch the new movie and connect with a strong female superhero on screen. Speaking about online criticism and sexist comments, Alcock shared that she tries not to engage with negativity on social media, even though she grew up in the digital age.

The film also stars Jason Momoa, David Corenswet, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Eve Ridley.

Alcock’s journey from washing dishes in Sydney to becoming Supergirl is a reminder that success often begins with hard work, patience, and believing in yourself.
