Taylor Swift fans, known for their love of her voice memos that offer a glimpse into her songwriting process, are feeling particularly emotional after hearing a recently released clip. These memos often reveal the evolution of her tracks from their initial conception to the final release. However, her latest memo has left many Swifties expressing that their “heart is hurting.”

On Saturday, August 3, the pop superstar unveiled a previously unheard voice memo for her Tortured Poets Department track “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys.” This limited-time recording is available for purchase on her website until noon ET on August 4.

In the voice memo, shared by a fan on X, Swift, 34, explained, “OK, so this is kind of an abnormal structure, but I think it could be really cool this way.” She continued, “It sounds sad because it’s on piano and I’m sad in general, but it’s got to have like a driving synth beat or whatever,” before delving into the song.

Fans quickly responded to the memo, with many commenting on what seemed to be Swift’s emotional state, likely influenced by her recent breakup with The 1975’s frontman Matty Healy.

“My heart was hurting hearing her say those words,” one X user commented. Another noted, “And then the sniffle before she started singing.” A simple, “That hurt,” summed up another fan’s reaction.

Despite the emotional content of the memo, some fans pointed out a positive angle, with one noting, “But the positive side is she’s in SUCH a better place!”

Following her brief romance with Healy, Swift began dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, a relationship that has since flourished. And as Swifties know all too well, the rest is history.
