Taylor Swift buys back the rights to her master recordings – BBC News
Taylor Swift now owns the master recordings of her first six albums. She shared the emotional news in a letter on her website, saying, “All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs to me.” Swift lost the rights in 2019 when Big Machine sold them to Scooter Braun, whom she accused of bullying. The masters were later sold to Shamrock Capital, who said they’re happy for her. Braun denied the claims but said he’s glad for her now.
To regain control, Swift re-recorded four albums as “Taylor’s Version.” These include Fearless, Red, Speak Now, and 1989. She’s fully recorded her debut album but has just started work on Reputation. One track, “Look What You Made Me Do,” already appeared on The Handmaid’s Tale.
Her record-breaking Eras Tour helped fund the buyback. She thanked fans for their support, calling it a dream come true. Rumors now swirl about a possible new concert film.
