Thrilling Showdown at the 123rd U.S. Open: Top Golfers Clash on Historic Course

The 123rd U.S. Open, taking place at The Los Angeles Country Club (North Course), has announced tee times for the opening two rounds. A notable group to watch is Scottie Scheffler, Max Homa, and Collin Morikawa, who will start their U.S. Open journey at 8:13 a.m. local time on Thursday from the first tee. Scheffler, the world No. 1, joins Morikawa and Homa, both alumni of Cal-Berkeley and local favorites. Morikawa, a two-time major winner, and Homa, ranked No. 7 globally, are both seeking their first top-10 finishes in a major tournament. Homa, a Los Angeles native, hopes to break his major drought on familiar turf, having won the 2013 Pac-12 individual title at this venue.

Scheffler, who has triumphed twice on the TOUR this season, including THE PLAYERS Championship, aims to add a second major to his resume, having already secured a Masters green jacket in 2022. Morikawa, on the other hand, has already claimed a major title in California, winning the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco and the 2021 Open Championship.

This U.S. Open is the first to be held at the prestigious LACC, a private club valued in the billions according to real estate agents. It is also the first U.S. Open in Los Angeles since 1948, when Ben Hogan emerged victorious at Riviera. The course is expected to pose challenges with uneven lies, bunkers that appear rough, and greens that feed into unpredictable surroundings.

The U.S. Open is renowned for its democratic nature, as over 60 players earn their spots through the 36-hole Final Qualifying held over the last month. The previous two majors of the season were won by Jon Rahm (Masters) and Brooks Koepka (PGA Championship). This week, a mix of established stars and rising contenders will compete for the season’s third major title.
