Trump Says Coca-Cola Will Switch to Real Cane Sugar in the U.S.: “It’s Just Better!”

Trump says Coca-Cola will swap corn syrup for cane sugar in US – ‘It’s just better!’

President Donald Trump has claimed that Coca-Cola will soon start using real cane sugar in its U.S. drinks instead of high-fructose corn syrup—a major change that could shake up the beverage industry.

In a recent post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said, “I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so. This will be a very good move by them – You’ll see. It’s just better!”

While Coca-Cola hasn’t officially confirmed the switch, a company spokesperson did respond, saying they “appreciate President Trump’s enthusiasm” and that more details about new product innovations will be revealed soon.

Why the Change Matters

The conversation around sugar is heating up—especially since Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s Health Secretary pick, has voiced concerns about the health effects of corn syrup. He’s pushing for food companies to cut ingredients like corn syrup, seed oils, and artificial dyes, all of which have been linked to various health issues.

Kennedy’s Make America Healthy Again campaign is focused on cleaning up the American diet, and an update to the national dietary guidelines is expected later this year.

What Does This Mean for Coca-Cola?

In many countries like Mexico, the UK, and Australia, Coke already uses cane sugar, and fans often say it tastes better. Switching to cane sugar in the U.S. could be seen as a step toward a more natural and possibly healthier product.

However, not everyone is happy. The Corn Refiners Association warns that ditching corn syrup could hurt American corn farmers and food manufacturing jobs. CEO John Bode said, “Replacing high-fructose corn syrup with cane sugar would cost thousands of American jobs, hurt farm incomes, and increase sugar imports—all with no proven health benefits.”

A Sweet Future Ahead?

Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey recently said the company is working on reducing sugar across its beverage lineup by tweaking recipes and using its global marketing reach to promote healthier options.

Interestingly, Trump himself is known to be a big fan of Diet Coke, even installing a special button in the Oval Office to order it—despite its use of aspartame, another controversial sweetener.

Whether Coca-Cola’s possible move to cane sugar is a true health win or just smart branding remains to be seen. But one thing’s clear: sugar is becoming a political talking point like never before.
