At its peak, over 180,000 users reported issues with accessing Instagram.
Meta Platform Inc’s Instagram experienced a global outage that affected thousands of users, but the service has now been restored. A spokesperson for Meta confirmed that a technical issue caused difficulties in accessing the platform and that the problem has been resolved. The company did not disclose the exact number of users affected by the disruption. However, Downdetector.com, an outage tracking website, recorded over 100,000 incidents in the United States, 24,000 in Canada, and more than 56,000 in Britain. At its peak, over 180,000 users reported issues with accessing Instagram. The outage began around 5:45 p.m. EST and gradually subsided, with around 7,000 reports remaining by 8:30 p.m. EST.
During the outage, frustrated users turned to other social media platforms to voice their concerns, and hashtags such as “My Instagram” and “Y’all Instagram” quickly trended on Twitter. Downdetector.com showed a significant increase in reports of Instagram outages starting at 3:09 p.m. PT.
Meta, the parent company of Instagram, recently announced the rollout of a subscription service called “Meta Verified,” which offers benefits like a blue checkmark, extra impersonation protection, and direct customer support. This outage follows a major Instagram outage on September 22 and occurred shortly after the introduction of the Meta Verified service.
Overall, Instagram’s recent global outage caused inconvenience for thousands of users, but the technical issue has been resolved, allowing most users to access the platform once again.
