Khamzat Chimaev – SPARRING ROUNDS IN DUBAI! 10RNDWRESTLING +12RND MMA
In a recent announcement by UFC president Dana White, former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman will replace Paulo Costa to face Khamzat Chimaev in the co-main event of UFC 294 on October 21 in Abu Dhabi. Costa’s withdrawal from the fight was due to elbow surgery. ESPN ranks Usman as the world’s No. 2 welterweight, with Chimaev at No. 4. Notably, this fight will take place at middleweight, the original weight class when Costa was the intended opponent.
Usman, with a record of 20-3, had not competed since losing his welterweight title to Leon Edwards at UFC 286 in March. Before his recent losses, he had an impressive 15-fight winning streak, the second longest in UFC history, and is currently ranked No. 6 in the world on the pound-for-pound list by ESPN.
Chimaev, boasting a perfect 12-0 record, has made a significant impact in the UFC with six wins and five finishes. A versatile fighter, he has competed in both middleweight and welterweight classes and is considered a rising star and a potential future champion.
UFC 294’s main event will feature Islam Makhachev defending his lightweight title against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. This bout was organized after Charles Oliveira, the former lightweight champion, had to withdraw due to a training injury. The changes in the fight card have added intrigue to what promises to be an exciting event.
