Suspect accused of throwing explosive devices at Tesla vehicles, defacing ‘ Nazi’ cars at dealership
A 40-year-old woman, Lucy Grace Nelson, was arrested in Loveland, Colorado, for allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails at Tesla vehicles and spray-painting “Nazi cars” at a dealership. Police caught her just before midnight on Monday after she returned to the scene with more explosive materials.
Nelson, who previously identified as Justin Thomas Nelson, is accused of targeting at least four Tesla cars worth $220,000. The explosive devices were made from empty liquor bottles. Officers found spray paint, gasoline, and cloth soaked with accelerant in her car.
This wasn’t the first attack on the dealership. Since January, the location had been vandalized three times with similar methods. Police are investigating if someone else was involved.
Nelson’s motive remains unclear, but officials suspect it may be tied to protests against Tesla CEO Elon Musk. She faces charges for using explosive devices, criminal mischief, and attempting to commit a felony. After posting a $100,000 bond, she was released on Tuesday.
Federal authorities, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, are likely to pursue additional charges. The dealership and cars were covered in offensive graffiti, described as “very derogatory.”
This incident is part of a larger movement called #TeslaTakedown, which encourages shareholders to sell Tesla stocks and owners to ditch their cars. Actor Alex Winter, linked to the movement, claims over 100 Tesla dealerships have faced protests.
Police are working to uncover the full story behind Nelson’s actions and any potential accomplices.
