Google to Pay SpaceX $920 Million Per Month in Massive AI Computing Deal Ahead of IPO

AI Crunch: Google to Pay SpaceX $920M Monthly for Massive GPU Compute Access – Tech Orijin

Google has signed a major agreement with SpaceX to rent artificial intelligence (AI) computing power worth $920 million per month for nearly three years, according to a recent regulatory filing.

The deal will run from October 2026 through June 2029, potentially generating about $29.4 billion in revenue for SpaceX. Under the agreement, Google will use around 110,000 Nvidia GPUs (graphics processing units) along with other computing resources hosted in SpaceX’s AI data centers.

Why Google Needs More Computing Power

Google says the agreement will help meet growing demand for its AI services, especially Gemini Enterprise, the company’s AI platform for businesses. Demand has reportedly exceeded Google’s expectations, making additional computing capacity necessary.

If SpaceX fails to provide the promised GPU capacity by September 30, 2026, Google will have the option to cancel the contract or pay a reduced fee based on the available resources.

A Big Boost for SpaceX Before Its IPO

The announcement comes just days before SpaceX’s highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO), where the company is expected to seek a valuation of more than $1.75 trillion.

Earlier this year, SpaceX merged with Elon Musk’s AI company xAI, creating a combined business valued at approximately $1.25 trillion. The Google agreement follows another major AI infrastructure deal announced with Anthropic last month.

SpaceX Expands Beyond Rockets and Satellites

SpaceX is increasingly focusing on AI infrastructure as a new source of revenue. The company has invested heavily in data centers, particularly around Memphis, Tennessee.

According to its IPO filing, SpaceX spent $10.1 billion on capital investments during the first quarter of 2026, with $7.7 billion dedicated to AI-related projects.

Despite those investments, the company’s AI division reported an operating loss of $2.5 billion on revenue of $818 million during the quarter.

Google and SpaceX: Competitors and Partners

Interestingly, Google and SpaceX compete in several areas. SpaceX operates the Starlink satellite internet service, while Google offers broadband services through Google Fiber. They also compete in the AI market.

However, the two companies have collaborated before. In 2021, Google provided cloud and networking support to SpaceX’s Starlink project, helping expand satellite internet coverage.

Growing AI Infrastructure Race

The agreement highlights the enormous demand for AI computing power. Google recently increased its projected AI-related spending for 2026 to between $180 billion and $190 billion as competition intensifies among major technology companies.

The deal also places SpaceX in direct competition with AI infrastructure providers such as CoreWeave and Nebius, which lease computing capacity to AI developers.

Key Takeaway

Google’s multi-billion-dollar agreement with SpaceX underscores the growing importance of AI infrastructure. For SpaceX, the deal provides a significant new revenue stream ahead of its IPO. For Google, it secures the computing power needed to support the rapid growth of its Gemini AI platform and enterprise customers.
