Sands’ breakthrough role came playing the romantic lead in A Room With a View
British actor Julian Sands, best known for his roles in the film “A Room With A View” and TV dramas “24” and “Smallville,” has been confirmed dead. Human remains found in the mountains in California have been formally identified as Sands, who went missing during a hike in January. The 65-year-old actor’s remains were discovered by walkers on Saturday. The search efforts were hindered by severe storms, icy conditions, and the threat of avalanches.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department stated that the manner of Sands’ death is still under investigation, pending further test results. The family of the late actor expressed their gratitude to the search teams and coordinators who worked tirelessly to locate him. Sands’ brother, Nick Sands, had already come to terms with his brother’s passing, stating that he had said his goodbyes.
Julian Sands began his acting career with roles in films such as “The Killing Fields” and gained recognition for his performance in the film adaptation of E.M. Forster’s novel “A Room With A View.” He played the character George Emerson, opposite Helena Bonham Carter. The film was a critical and commercial success, winning several awards. Sands also had notable roles in other films like “Warlock,” “Arachnophobia,” and “Leaving Las Vegas.” In addition to his film work, Sands appeared in TV shows such as “24” and “Smallville.”
